Swedish media picked up on Thunbergs striking, and the news of her strike spread. Soon after, thousands of other students joined the #FridaysforFuture movement. They stayed home on Friday in protest against climate change. In 2019 climate campaigners around the world joined together to coordinate the initial Global Strike for Climate. The strike was hugely successful and more than 1.6 million people across more than 125 nations took part.
